FULL AHEAD is the quarterly members’ newsletter of the Medway Queen Preservation Society. It contains ship and society news, notifications of new products and forthcoming events, historical articles and (of course) appeals for help! Publication is usually in March, June, September and December each year. generally early in the month but we are all volunteers and sometimes other aspects of life cause short delays.
The schedule is:
Spring Published mid March, final copy date 1st February
Summer Published mid June, final copy date 1st May
Autumn Published early September, final copy date 1st August
Winter Published early December, final copy date 1st November
The newsletter started as “Medway Queen News”, soon after the society was formed in 1985 and the first four issues were duplicated A4 sheets.
In June 1987 the first A5 printed booklet version appeared (far left) and it became a regular quarterly publication. In the year 2000 the format changed to A4 and the magazine gradually moved towards a full colour production (left).
Increasing costs and lack of an editor resulted in fewer issues in 2015/16 so in 2017 a decision was made to return to A5 and to use an online printer; with the result that 4 issues in each year then cost no more to print than was previously being paid for each single issue (bottom left).
